Primate Celebrates Christmas in Greenfield
By David Luhrssen
(Greenfield, WI) On Jan. 11, His Eminence Khajag Barsamian celebrated Armenian Christmas at St. John the Baptist Armenian Church, conducting Divine Liturgy followed by the Blessing of the Water service. He also presented an encyclical from the Catholicos, His Holiness Karekin II, honoring two of St. John’s longtime members, John and Lynn Kashian.
Rev. Fr. Nareg Keutelian, read the encyclical in front of the congregation as the Primate presented the Kaishians with the Order of St. Nerses Shnorhali for half a century of dedicated service to the parish and the Midwest Armenian community. Among their many contributions were constructing St. John’s culture hall in the 1970s, becoming godfathers of the church at the consecration of the sanctuary in 1986 and providing the property that housed the Midwest Hye Camp for three decades.
Afterward, the Primate and congregation continued the celebration in the culture hall with a Christmas luncheon. Over one hundred people were in attendance.
